Breaking Ground: Penticton's First North Gateway Development

A Milestone Ceremony

Penticton's newest hotel is the first project in North Gateway. Our CEO, Ron Mundi, was joined by Mayor of Penticton John Vassilaki, MLA Dan Ashton, and representatives from Sheraton, Marriott, and Valley First Credit Union to speak ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony for the new six-storey, 105-room project.

Mundi Hotel Enterprises' newest development has been underway for two years, and this groundbreaking ceremony is the latest phase on the project. In addition to the high-end hotel, which will have a swimming pool and rooftop patio, the development will also include an attached 100-seat restaurant. Check out the full article here.

Two Years in the Making

A groundbreaking ceremony marks a single day, but it's rarely the start of the real work. This project has been two years in motion already — through planning, permitting, partnership agreements, and the long list of details that go into bringing a six-storey hotel to a city-owned site across from the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre. Having Mayor Vassilaki, MLA Dan Ashton, and representatives from both Sheraton and Marriott stand alongside Valley First Credit Union at this ceremony was a reminder of just how many partners it takes to get a project like this out of the ground — from municipal support, to provincial representation, to brand partnership, to financing.

Designed for the North Gateway

As Penticton's first development in the North Gateway zone, this hotel is meant to set the tone for what's still to come in that part of the city. The six-storey, 105-room building will offer a swimming pool and rooftop patio for guests, along with an attached 100-seat restaurant — amenities built with both leisure travellers and conference-goers in mind, given the hotel's direct line to the convention centre next door.

Our construction team documented the project's progress from March 2022 through March 2023, tracking it every step of the way — you can see the full build timeline on Mundi Construction's project page. The hotel was ultimately built out with several different room types, including suites with kitchenettes, to suit a variety of travellers' needs.

Worth the Wait

The Four Points by Sheraton Penticton at the Convention Centre opened its doors in January 2024, expanding to 121 rooms across its six storeys, along with a rooftop patio, pool, and Palmer's Steakhouse Casual restaurant. As STAY Magazine reported on opening, Ron Mundi reflected on why this location made sense from the start: "Penticton is a charming city, it has a welcoming community, and it's a perfect choice for visitors in the scenic South Okanagan Valley." City officials agreed it filled a long-standing need — as one city official put it, this was "the convention hotel we've wanted for the last three or four years."

From the groundbreaking ceremony to the ribbon cutting, this project reflects the kind of partnership between our team, the City of Penticton, and our brand partners that makes developments like this possible. Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate breaking ground — we can't wait for you to see what North Gateway becomes next.
